What do you need for Business Insurance Quote

It can be frustrating to begin to get a small business insurance quote and find out you don't even have all the information together that you need. This information should save you time and energy by helping you gather all the essential information that you need to get an accurate quote and avoid the back and forth.

Basic Information Needed

Most Business Insurance quotes require basic information like:

  • Business Name
  • Business Location & Industry
  • EIN (Tax ID)
  • Owners Information with experience, certifications, licenses, etc.
  • Business Operation Details
  • Gross Annual Sales

Your daily operations are considered when determining the risk exposure. For example, a Residential Contractor has a different risk exposure than a Commercial Contractor.

Tools & Equipment

An Inland Marine Endorsement to your Business Insurance Quote can offer protections to your equipment and building materials. The information needed for an Inland Marine endorsement would include:

  • Tools and equipment valued over $1,000
  • Various types of building material used
  • Portable Computer Equipment

Listing specific equipment valued over $1,000 will likely require making, model, serial number specifications, and value.

Inland Marine Insurance is insurance coverage that protects transportable good s on land and inland waterways. Transportable goods can include building materials, tools, and portable computer equipment like tablets and laptops.

For example, a Painter may want to insure an expensive paint spray rig and other tools with an Inland Marine Endorsement since this equipment is transported to various job sites. Likewise, a Carpenter can insure cabinets and other building materials to be installed at a job site.

Employee Information

If you have employees, you are generally required to carry Workers' Compensation Insurance. Prepare to provide:

  • Annual Payroll
  • Number of Employees
  • Subcontractor cost

Note that Owners and Partners are not considered employees.

Property Details

When insuring a commercial property through a Business Owners Policy (BOP), you'll need to provide:

  • Location of Property
  • Building construction type
  • Square Footage of the building
  • Age of building
  • Current Occupancy
  • Mortgage/Lienholder Information
  • Building Safety Features

The construction and use of your building can influence the insurance premium quote. For example, a fire-resistant building with automatic sprinklers has a lower exposure than a building lacking these features.
